Composition for a cupboard and two performers, 2023
In this performance I played with two of my favorite ideas - revealing musicality in non-sounding context and breathing life into inanimate objects.
The performance is of free duration. It consists of three stages - cabinet is closed, cabinet doors are being opened, cabinet is open.
When the idea for this composition was conceived, I wanted to play with the interchange (inversion) of the visual fields.
If the first stage of the composition takes up the visual field as A (the sea on the left) B (cupboard) A1 (the sea on the left), through the second stage, we transition into the third stage of the composition B (cabinet door left) A (the sea in the middle) and A1 (cabinet door right).
Another layer of the composition is related to the concept of eternity, which is represented by the sea. The external eternity is of the same kind as the one inside of the individuals, here represented by the cabinet.
For a live performance of Triptych, two fish lines are attached to each door and two performers are opening doors from very far away, by pulling the string. This creates a choreography on a larger scale, where we see two dancing bodies at very large distances, represented by the two doors closer to us.
This composition is context fluent and instead of the sea can be performed at any other location, for example busy street, protest, forest. Whatever is the circumstance, it will be represented as both external and internal. For example, external war circumstances and internal war. External business and rush, internal unrest.
